Matt Johnston is a dedicated public servant with a strong background in both business and community service. Matt has worked as a coal miner and pipefitter, gaining firsthand experience of the challenges faced by working families in Colorado. As a City Council member in Brighton, he has championed transparency, accountability, and economic development. Now, Matt is running for Colorado State Senate District 13 to bring his pragmatic approach and dedication to improving the lives of all Coloradans.
In Matt’s Own Words
Dear neighbor,
I was born and raised in a middle-class family. My mom was a hair stylist. My dad was a firefighter. They instilled in me the values of hard work and community. Growing up, I immersed myself in sports and academics, eventually earning a football scholarship from Western Colorado University. After college, I embarked on a diverse career path, working as a welder and laborer, and later supervising a coal mine wash plant.
Sixteen years ago, I found love and partnership in my amazing wife, Patricia. Together, we are blessed with two young daughters, Olivia Michelle and Maya Marie.
My family serves as a constant reminder of the importance of diversity and inclusion. Patricia’s Latino family heritage and our mixed-race children inspire me to fight for a future where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background.
As a Brighton City Councilmember, My record speaks for itself — I’ve stood up against partisanship and fought for transparency and accountability. My approach isn’t bound by party lines; it’s about finding common-sense solutions that benefit our communities.
Together, we will rise above divisive politics that plague our state Capitol. With collaboration and determination, we will overcome this political division and forge a path toward a stronger, more prosperous Colorado for all.
